The last couple of days, I've been obsessed with food...
If you're new to these parts, you're probably thinking I've got one of those foodie blogs... only I soooooo don't! If there are a few things this blog ain't - it's a foodie, fashion or Mum blog (mainly cause a. I can't cook... b. I'm a fashion disaster - I totally exaggerate... c. I'm no Mum - well I'm Mum to one hell of a cool four legged black beauty - Billy.)
I'm not sure what it is... probably cause I'm feeling a little on the blah side and food is my savior (oh except that I weighed myself this morning for the first time in 6 months - let me tell you, food is soooo not my savior - it's the devil incarnate).
The only way to get through this funk.. then the fat funk... is some good old fashion comfort food - or a blog about it so I don't have to feed my ever expanding beer and food baby (being the pregnant without being pregnant look)!
Timely, considering it's also a challenge on Blog This (a community for us totally rad Aussie bloggers). I've not taken up any challenges to date, but some of favourite Aussie bloggers have become part of the blog this team... so I thought, what the hell. Those favs? Kate, Nicki and Mrs P.
I love food! Part of the reason I exercise so damn much. That way I can burn a few calories, in order to eat that cheese, or have that beer (or 10).
What do I reach for on those damn days that Aunty Flo comes to visit? Chocolate... particularly of the white variety... and LOTS OF IT! But chocolate of any description (other than carob - my Mum feed us gross hippy food when I was a kid) will suffice!
My new favourite indulgence are these...
I just discovered them at Woolies and I can't. stop. eating. them! They look healthy... with the whole 'Go Natural' and use of the word 'Fruit' - when really they are the devil in disguise.
I mentioned Nan the other day... the things I miss about her. And you know, one of those things is her sweets (sweets for my sweet).
She'd make the most kick arse Yo Yo's (also known as Melting Moments), Jelly Slice, Mississippi Mud and Madiera Cake. Yummmm... Oh how I miss a cuppa, a sneaky ciggarette and a good old laugh with that woman.
Christmas, just passed, my lovely cousin Julezy, got Nanna's prized Yo Yo recipe and created a little piece of Nanna (one that we could eat). I ate about 10... seriously!
I decided, while chowing down on one too many of those delicious shortbread delights, that I was going to put together a small cookbook for all the family with all Nanna's recipes in it. I'll make all the delacies, take photo's of them and get a book printed for each and every one of us.
Comfort food.... all bound in a comforting book!
Now that's a RAD idea if ever I had one!

That is SUCH a rad idea. I might just have to steal it (the idea not the recipe book).
That IS a rad idea! I love it. Now I'm hungry for sweets.
Mmmmm food!!! I'm obsessed with italian cream sodas and hersheys cookie n' cream bars. Yum-to-the-max :)-
I love your idea. My grandma is an amazing cook and more specifically a baker. She is still with us and I'm begging her for her cookbooks. She has handwritten her own and they are like the fat kid bible in our family. You have me craving chocolate, coffee and wine all at once!
love the idea. and just so you know. i am sitting here and about to embark on several hours of work but scarfing some room service sandwich with really weird cheese on it (WHY IS IT NOT YELLOW???) i just don't know what to do with myself but i think i just gained four pounds if it makes you feel any better.
you are rad karls. always.
kiran
What a great idea! I have a huge sweet tooth and a huge arse to show for it.
Pretty much the only reason I work out is so I can eat stuff too.
And Jersey Shore episodes are on mtv. com so you can catch up instead of waiting 4 years!
And this is why I love you.... I love food! Food + Me = Happiness.

I think i have said this sentence 21613542542125 times in my life. I am beginning to think you and I share quite a bit in common.
That would be a fun idea. I wish I had classic recipes from my grandmothers.
i loooove that idea! my mom has my grandmothers cookbooks and i love when she makes things out of them. if i could only learn to cook...
however, even though i can't cook- i do love to eat. love.to.eat. i have gained a million lbs recently.
shit. okay, i just wrote this really long comment and then my internet flaked out and i'm left with nothing and have to start from scratch. damn.
what i was saying before the internet kicked me off was... ever since reading your dr. uber arsehole post, i'm obsessed with you accent. so now every post i read, i try to read it with your accent (in my mind, of course). is this weird? am i a freak? okay, i know you have to like freaks so i'm good in your book, right?? :)
seriously, though... comfort food. mmmmmm. there's about 2 weeks out of every month that i only eat things that contains a shit ton amount of sugar. i blame it on being female.
that's such a great idea. a fitting legacy given you love your nan's food so much. and i don't blame you - melting moments rock my world.
i have the same food to gym ratio. i can't give up sweet food or alcohol so i try to balance the equation with excessive gym visits. the ratio is starting to exhaust though. need better balance.
my comfort food would definitely be sweet - probably ice cream, perhaps tim tam slams. bam!
I'm hungry now. Thanks a lot! ;)
Best. Idea. Ever!
hey! we work out for the same reason...so we can eat! HA!
those food treats are foreign to me but the first one looks yummy.
happy tuesday to my fav aussie!
those yo-yos look delish - if you can pry the recipe away from your cousin I would love to try making them! Please stop by my blog when you get a chance - I left a little something for you http://actingbalanced.blogspot.com/2010/02/awards.html
I decided to be healthy yesterday and then you go and post this! Now I want some cake or something!
My friend introduced me to those and they are so good! I agree, yummy goodness in disguise.
Great challenge entry!
Oh goddess....Nanna recipes. I want to cry now. Lovely entry.
A Comfort Food Recipe book
You could be sitting on a gold mine there my dear
I would certainly buy it LOL
I want to climb through the computer and grab one off the plate....
Stopping by from SITS to say HI!
Stopping by from SITS
Food is my best friend and my worst enemy. I wish I had a lipo guy on standby so I could just eat whatever I want whenever I want.
dude! i love the food, but have to cut back. i weighed myself a few months back and was AGHAST at what that mean and nasty scale said that i weighed. bah! so the diet (and lots of cheating!) continue for me. and oh how i love the cheating! ahahha. but i also love when clothes get too baggy to wear. god! such a war of mind and body and mouth!
Now that IS an amazing Idea! I would LOVE to have something like that from my Grandma...not even when she passes on....I could kill to have a recipe book from my family NOW! I completely love your idea and think your family will too.
I have noticed a food theme here lately...I thought maybe you were just writing on your lunch break! Sort of like how you're not supposed to go to the grocery store on an empty stomach...I thought maybe you shouldn't blog hungry either! ;) I kid!
Added you on facebook m'luv!
xoxo
~hl~
Melting moments sound like little bites of heavenly deliciousness!!!
I'm totally intrigued!
I'm going to TOWN on some Oreos right now. I'm very comforted! ah ha ha
